Vattenfall Cyclassics: BMC Racing Team's Wyss 16th

19. August 2012

The BMC Racing Team was present in every major move in Sunday's Vattenfall Cyclassics, capped by Danilo Wyss's 16th place finish in the 245.9-kilometer race in Hamburg, Germany.

Present In Every Move
BMC Racing Team's Marco Pinotti did the majority of the work in a seven-man breakaway that formed after an initial three-man move was reeled in with 60 km to go. When his group was caught 27 km from the finsih, Manuel Quinziato and Greg Van Avermaet got into a small move that enjoyed 10 km of freedom. Van Avermaet was not deterred, though, and battled his way back to the front the final time up the climb of the Waseberg. "Greg tried something in the end but Vattenfall is mostly a sprint, with many teams working to make sure it ends in a sprint," BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Rik Verbrugghe said. Wyss said his work to help Van Avermaet sapped his strength for the dash to the finish, which was won by Arnaud Demare (FDJ-BigMat).  "I was helping Greg a bit before the climb, especially when he went in the move with Manuel Quinziato so I didn't have that much energy left for the sprint," Wyss said.
