Van Avermaet Seventh In Binche-Tournai-Binche

Binche, Belgium

After the BMC Racing Team animated Binche-Tournai-Binche Tuesday, Greg Van Avermaet sprinted to seventh place on the uphill, cobblestoned finish to the 202.1-kilometer race.

Strong Team Effort

Several times, the BMC Racing Team's aggression split the peloton in the crosswinds, first forcing a 25-rider selection that included five members of the team and later a 30-rider move that included seven BMC Racing Team members. "We did a really good job today making the race hard with the crosswind," Van Avermaet said. "And all the guys put me and Taylor (Phinney) in good position at the end. Taylor went full out the last climb and last kilometer." Rüdiger Selig (Leopard Trek) took the win. "We were really the strongest team in the race, but we needed to take control of the race," BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Rik Verbrugghe said. "Unfortunately, we lost some riders in the final that could have helped in the leadout to help win the race."
