Trentino Final Warm-Up Before Giro

14. April 2012

The Giro del Trentino that begins Tuesday will offer the BMC Racing Team a final chance to prepare for the rigors of next month's Giro d'Italia.

Begins With Team Time Trial
BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Max Sciandri, a former Trentino stage winner himself, said the four-day race offers a number of challenges, beginning with a 14.3-kilometer team time trial on the opening stage. There are also mountain-top finishes on Stages 2 and 4, as well as a Stage 3 ascent of an 8.5 km climb featuring an average grade of 15 percent. "For many guys, this is a finishing off race for condition heading into the Giro," Sciandri said. "Everyone has slightly different goals, but we'll meld together as a strong team." Marco Pinotti said he is encouraged by his recent form, which led to a fourth-place finish in the time trial at last week's Vuelta al Pais Vasco. "That race was not so easy, with bad weather and full gas racing all day," he said. "But it gave me a boost of confidence because I finished strong. I look forward to keep improving and Trentino is a lot of climbing. That's what I need to work on now – the long climbs."
