Tour Méditerranéen, Stage 1: Two In The Top 10

6. February 2013

Klaas Lodewyck finished seventh and Thor Hushovd was ninth for the BMC Racing Team on Wednesday's opening stage of the Tour Méditerranéen in Gruissan, France.

Windy And Cold Day
In windy and cold conditions with intermittent rain, André Greipel (Lotto-Belisol) took the bunch sprint win after ahead of Matteo Pelucchi (IAM Cycling) and Maxime Daniel (Sojasun). Lodewyck said he got a good look at the finish line as the peloton passed through on a five kilometer loop at the end of the 146.5 km race. "The first time through we had a few guys on the front and with one kilometer to go, Thor and I were still together," Lodewyck said. "At 300 meters to go, Greipel went and Thor followed on his wheel while I made the decision to stay where I was." Thursday's second stage of the five-day race is a 24 km individual time trial that should suit Marco Pinotti, BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Yvon Ledanois said. "Tomorrow will be really good for Marco but it is also really important for Ivan Santaromita to be near the leaders too," he said.
