Tirreno-Adriatico, Stage 3: Hushovd Eighth

8. March 2013

Thor Hushovd finished eighth for the BMC Racing Team Friday in another rain-soaked stage of Tirreno-Adriatico.

Good Training
Hushovd said mixing it up in the sprint finish – won by Peter Sagan (Cannondale Pro Cycling) ahead of race leader Mark Cavenish (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) – was good training for the upcoming classics, particularly Milan-San Remo on March 17. "It was a fast final and a bit crazy with the rain and also being quite fast from the last little climb with two-and-a-half kilometers to go," the former world road champion said. "I was there in the front group and tried to give it a go. Looking toward Milan-San Remo, it's good training. But when it's a fast sprint, I don't have the speed in my legs to match the best guys." BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Max Sciandri said after two days of protecting team leader Cadel Evans in the slick and sometimes dangerous conditions, "the real race" begins Saturday. "Last year, this stage decided the winner," he said. "We're safe and healthy and so we're going to aim for tomorrow."
