20. April 2011

Ledro Bezzecca, Italy

Steve Morabito sprinted to fourth place for the BMC Racing Team Wednesday to climb into the top 10 overall at the Giro del Trentino.

Good Teamwork

"The team helped me very well today," Morabito said. "Chris Barton pulled with RadioShack for 20 kilometers (to bring back a four-man breakaway) and the other guys helped bring me to the front before the last climb." Thomas Voeckler (Europcar) won a two-up sprint against Michele Scarponi (Lampre-ISD), who took the overall lead. "I started my sprint with 300 to go and (Vincenzo) Nibali passed me with 200 to go," Morabito said. "I stayed on his wheel and passed him with 100 to go, but (Przemyslaw) Niemiec came back to get me at the line."

The last two escapees were swept up in the final kilometer as Van Avermaet finished 20 seconds behind the winner.
