BMC Racing Team's Brent Bookwalter missed out on a podium placing by one tenth of a second Saturday at the USA Cycling Professional Time Trial National Championships. Teammate Taylor Phinney, the event's defending champion, finished seventh
Slow Second Lap
Bookwalter said he had a "bad spot" midway through the three-lap, 33-kilometer race against the clock. "It was a pacing issue," he said. "Physically I could have ridden the second lap faster. The first lap you feel fresh and attack the course and the last lap you just empty the tank. I've always had a trouble in the middle part." David Zabriskie (Garmin-Cervélo) won in a time of 40:23.5. Matthew Busche (Team RadioShack) bested Bookwalter's time of 41:22.2 by a tenth of a second to take the final podium spot.
