BMC Racing Team Ready For Challenging Catalunya

18. March 2012

The BMC Racing Team roster for the Volta a Catalunya is one built to survive the rigors of hard climbing stages, Assistant Director Rik Verbrugghe said on the eve of the seven-day race.

Important Test
"This is the first race on the WorldTour calendar where we have long climbs – more than 25 kilometers," Verbrugghe said. "For the guys doing the big tours, it will be an important test for them. We have a lot of good riders here for the general classification." Among them is Tejay van Garderen, who said his fifth place finish last week at Paris-Nice built his confidence. "I was able to stay healthy and fit in between Paris-Nice and now, so hopefully I'm able to turn it into a result," he said. "There's no time trial and a lot of climbing, so it could be a race for pure climbers. But I think I can probably aim for a top 10 finish overall. To be on the podium is going to be difficult without a time trial."
