BMC Racing Team – Camp Diary: Today with Chad Beyer

22. January 2009

Santa Rosa

I am very happy with the way camp has been going.  Since this is my first year as a pro, I was a bit nervous coming in since I didn't quite know what to expect.  But I trained hard in the off-season and feel like I am riding well.  Everyone is so nice that I haven't had any trouble feeling comfortable in the group.  I knew a couple of the guys before this camp, and Brent has been a friend of mine from the National Team, but this is my first time riding with most everyone.  It has been really easy to get to know all the guys, though since everyone is already good friends.  As a first-year professional, I am focusing on continuing to improve and having the chance to learn from seasoned pros like Jeff Louder and Markus Zberg will be a huge opportunity.  I see my role on the team as working as a solid domestique and always being there when the team needs me.  I'm a pretty strong climber and can sprint from small groups, so I will want to use my capabilities to help the team leaders get solid results throughout the year.  I am getting ready to head to Qatar with the team and can't wait to be in my first pro race.  It's going to be a cool race with hard, fast, flat-out riding the whole time.  Being there with riders like Martin Kohler will be a big boost since it was his first pro race last year too, and so his input will be enormously helpful and welcomed.
