BMC Mountainbike Racing Team: Moritz Milatz strong third at Racer Cup in Schaan

27. März 2011

Schaan, Liechtenstein

Gallati finishes 13th, Tamararcaz 22nd, and Corminboeuf 57th at the first Racer Cup of 2011.

The Swiss mountainbiking season came to an official start this weekend at the first race of the 2011 Racer Cup series in Schaan, Liechtenstein. Many top-nodge pro riders lined up to look for their racing punch. There are eight races to gather valuable points for the overall Racer Cup classification which will be determined August 28th in Basel.

The sun did not shine for too long during the men's elite race. While the clouds were arriving, temperatures dropped significantly. On the race course, however, BMC Mountainbike Racing Team riders Moritz Milatz, Patrik Gallati, Julien Tamararcaz, and Yves Corminboeuf put on the heat on the trails of Schaan.

Reigning German Champion proved once again that his name has been engraved in the cross-country world-class scene right in time for his first season on BMC bikes in 2011. Right from the start, he challenged the famed Swiss duo of the Scott Swisspower Team, Florian Vogel and Swiss Champion Nino Schurter. "I went all out in the beginning hanging on to Nino and Florian. The pace was too fast for me, however, so I slowed down and went my own pace from lap three on. It worked out well in the end. I am very content with my performance", commented Milatz. Behind, Cannondale Factory Racing teammates Marco Aurelio Fontana (ITA) and Manuel Fumic (GER) worked well together but could not close up to Milatz.

"It was an OK race. Neither bad nor great. My performance was solid. I just lacked the punch necessary for such a fast course", said a self-critical Patrick Gallati about his 13th place. He is making a smooth transition from the U23 category where he won bronze at the World Championship in 2010.

Julien Tamararcaz and Yves Corminboeuf both had to fight their way forward from the back of the field. As mtb rookies, they are forced to start at the end of the field, not being ranked in the scene nationally or internationally. "I went too fast moving from the back to around 20th place in the beginning of the race. I was maxed out midway through but could recover in time to move back up to 22nd in the end", explained Tamararcaz. Yves Corminboeuf used his first showing of 2011 to get back into his first year of racing after his chemotherapy ended just over a year ago to treat leukemia.

The second holding of the Racer Cup will take place April 10th in Tesserete, Ticino where the BMC Mountainbike Raicng Team is lining up with his complete team roster. Alex Moos and Balz Weber are currently racing the Cape Epic in South Africa.
