Tour de Suisse, Stage 2: Frank Best Swiss Rider

10. juin 2012

BMC Racing Team's Mathias Frank pulled on the "Best Swiss Rider" jersey at the Tour de Suisse Sunday after finishing 23rd in the first road stage and mountain-top finish of the nine-day race.

Frank lost contact with the leading group inside the final three kilometers of the 218.3 km race that started in bright sunshine and ended in rain. Rui Costa (Movistar Team) caught and passed Frank Schleck (RadioShack-Nissan) in the final hundred meters to win the stage. Frank arrived 1:28 later and moved up to 23rd overall, 1:37 off the lead of Costa. The bronze medalist at last year's Swiss national time trial championships, Frank said he is still feeling the effects of a cold that plagued his performance at the Giro d'Italia last month. "It was quite fast and Frank Schleck attacked really early into the climb," Frank said. "For me, it was a bit bad. The legs were good, but I couldn't breathe. I tried to hang in as long as I could. But I couldn't really bring my best performance."
