Podium and double lead for the BMC Mountainbike Racing Team

25. May 2014

Nove Mesto, Tschechische Republik - UCI Mountainbike Weltcup presented by Shimano

Third placed Moritz Milatz celebrates one of his best World Cup results so far, fifth placed Julien Absalon defends his lead in the World Cup, and BMC is the best team of the day and the No.1 mountain bike team in the UCI ranking.

Moritz Milatz was super happy and relieved to have achieved a good result at last this season. After last year's race in Nove Mesto he decided to ride the Nove Mesto trails on a full suspension bike. So the BMC fourstroke FS01 was his weapon for the rocky course. "My start was a bit off, but I can't say if it was because of the suspension or just me." He worked his way to the front of the race from 27th position and cruised down the technical sections and even uphill as he was able to stay in the saddle and recover. He didn't waste any energy because of this slow start. In the contrary Milatz was able to up the gas - setting a proper pace. When he reached the chase group on the second lap he attacked soon after and split the bunch.

The tragic hero of the day however, was Martin Fanger who was right up Nino Schurter's wheel for most of the race until a mechanical destroyed all his hopes for his first World Cup podium. „I hit a stone. It's a pity, but this race was good for my future career. I try to see the positive aspects," said Fanger.

It wasn't the only flat of the day as Lukas Flückiger suffered 2 flats and so did Reto Indergand and Stephen Ettinger. Many teams struggled with the rocky terrain and technical sections which featured sharp rocks and wreaked havoc with team's equipment.

Julien Absalon had a small crash during the race, forcing him to stop to adjust his handlebars during which he dropped back a few positions. „After that I had trouble finding my rhythm again," said Absalon. Despite the setback, he finished in 5th place and he will continue to wear the leader's jersey going into the Worldcup No.4 in Albstadt, Germany next weekend.
