Covering Moves

Santambrogio crashed with 35 kilometers to go but received help from Taylor Phinney and Ivan Santaromita to chase back to the main pack. Meanwhile, up front,  Mathias Frank, Martin Kohler and Greg Van Avermaet were integrating themselves into breakaway groups. "The guys did a good job," BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Rik Verbrugghe said. "They were always in a good position and always trying to enter the dangerous breaks." Joaquin Rodriguez (Katusha) soloed to win the stage and become the new race leader. Santambrogio finished 38th, 1:03 behind Rodriguez.
