Tough Opener At Three Days of De Panne

30. March 2010

Oudenaarde, Belgium

Alessandro Ballan, in 25th place, was the BMC Racing Team’s best finisher Tuesday on Stage 1 of the Three Days of De Panne.

Plenty of Attacks

“Alessandro was very strong on the climbs and made the first selection on the cobbles,” BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Michael Sayers said. “Then there was a bunch of attacks. He covered a few but he couldn't follow all off them.” Steve Chainel (Bbox Bouygues Telecom) won the 198 km race from a small group. Ballan finished 2:09 back. “The plan will be to keep Ballan, (Michael) Schär and (Karsten) Kroon together and try to help them out tomorrow,” Sayers said.
