Paris-Nice, Stage 1: Wyss In The Top 10

6. March 2011

Houdan, France

Danilo Wyss finished eighth for the BMC Racing Team Sunday on a nervous opening stage of Paris-Nice.

Rough Roads

"The hardest part of the sprint was really the last 10 or 15 kilometers," Wyss said. "I had to be near the front really early to fight on the little roads. It was a battle, with the sidewinds splitting the group." Thomas de Gendt (Vacansoleil-DCM) survived from a three-man breakaway to take the win. Amaël Moinard said rough, gravel-laden roads, combined with the wind, made for a dangerous day. "Tomorrow, it will be the same because of the wind. We will have to fight," he said.
