Hincapie Closes Season With 19th In Montreal

11. September 2011

Montreal, Canada

George Hincapie found his chances for a top 10 placing at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal Sunday derailed when he was caught behind slower riders on the final uphill sprint to the line. The BMC Racing Team's road captain finished 19th in his final race of the year.

Consistency Marked Hincapie Season

Hincapie said he felt much better in the 205.7-kilometer race than in Friday's race in Quebec City. As eventual winner Rui Alberto Faria Da Costa (Movistar) was escaping to the finish with two others, Hincapie was setting up in the pack for the final 180-degree turn a few hundred meters from the line. "I went into the corner fifth, but I went in on the outside," the three-time U.S. national road champion said. "The guys who went into the corner first went to the outside and kind of stopped, so I had to brake and lost a ton of positions." Racing for the final time in his 18th season, Hincapie said he was pleased with his consistency. "I thought it was a good season, especially helping Cadel (Evans) at the Tour de France," he said. "I felt solid most of the year so I'm happy with the way the season went. Of course, I would've liked to have a couple more wins."
