Alessandro Ballan finished seventh at Trofeo Laigueglia and Greg Van Avermaet held onto his top 10 spot at the Tour of Oman as the BMC Racing Team competed on two continents Saturday.

Trofeo Laigueglia
Laigueglia, Italy –
The BMC Racing Team had four riders in the front group before Ballan attacked with seven kilometers to go, forcing the decisive split of the 183 km race. But the winner here in 2006 said he didn't have it in the end as Daniele Pietropolli (Lampre) took the win. "I started my sprint too far out and there was a headwind," Ballan said. "I had good legs today, just not for the final."

Tour of Oman
Al Jissah, Oman –
Greg Van Avermaet finished 29th in Saturday's 18.5-kilometer hilly time trial at the Tour of Oman to keep his spot in the top 10 with one stage left. "I'm not a time trial specialist, so I was just trying to hold my GC position," Van Avermaet said. "I am happy to stay in the top 10 and can go home with good condition and preparation for the next race." Robert Gesink (Rabobank) won the time trial to retain his overall lead.
