Absalon second, Flückiger third - BMC leads Team Ranking

BMC Mountainbike Racing Team's Julien Absalon and Lukas Flückiger were second and third in the World Cup race in Nove Mesto na Morave (Czech Republic) and thus have won the team competition. The team also took the lead in the overall standings.
Julien Absalon and Lukas Flückiger fought a big fight against World Champion Nino Schurter and presented a great show to the audience in Nove Mesto.

On the demanding race course, Lukas Flückiger managed to keep up with the two eternal rivals up to the sixth out of eight laps, before it came to the final duel between the Frenchman and his Swiss opponent.
Absalon tried several times to attack Schurter, but his rival fought back successfully.
Finally, on the last climb a mere trifle decided in favor of Nino Schurter. When a tiny gap opened, Absalon could not close up to Schurter before they reached the finish line. Only three seconds back, two-time Olympic Champion Absalon was runner-up in the end.

"I'm not disappointed. Currently, Nino is the number one rider, but I have narrowed the gap compared to last year. I can keep up with my Team Elite TE01 in almost all sections of the course. Only on the short climbs, he is a little stronger than me. But we're working on that," said Julien Absalon.
Lukas Flückiger secured third place. "Every time these two were launching an attack, they just were a little bit too fast for me. So I decided not to undergo any risks and preferred to secure third place for the team," said the World Championships runner-up.

Flückiger's strategy as well as Martin Fanger's effort, who showed a very convincing race again and ended up on twelfth place, contributed to the fact that BMC Mountainbike Racing Team was able to celebrate its first victory in the team competition as well as the leading position in the overall team ranking.
Currently, Lukas Flückiger is third in the Men Elite ranking, with Schurter being in the lead, level on points with Daniel McConnell.

On Saturday U23-rider Reto Indergaard celebrated his best ever World Cup result. The Swiss biker was second behind Belgian Jens Schuermans. "When I noticed that I was in the front positions at the end of the first lap , this really inspired me. Already in Albstadt I have had the feeling that there is an upward trend," said Indergand.
