Second in the finish chute was Swiss marathon champion Andreas Kugler (2:53:17 hrs.) ahead of third-placed Hannes Genze (2:53:17 hrs.). All three BMC athletes rode into the top 10: Balz Weber finished 5th, Yves Corminboeuf 10th.

Attack at 30k: Moos in a solo effort

Alexandre Moos waited for 30 kilometers until he put the hammer down and showed his competition who the man to beat was on the day. The chase group containing many of the world's best marathon riders could not follow him. Teammate Balz Weber was able to sit in the group and go along for a drafting ride. Moos extended his lead to over 3 minutes by the time he reached the finish line.

It came down to a photo finish for second place in the chase group behind Alex Moos. BMC Mountainbike Racing Team's Balz Weber did not have the fastest legs of the group but was able to secure a strong 5th-place finish together with Tim Böhme (Team Bulls) who had recently place third at the European marathon championships and 4th at the world marathon championships.
