Tour of Beijing, Stage 5: Kristoff Ninth

9. October 2011

Bird’s Nest Olympic Stadium, China

Norwegian national road champion Alexander Kristoff registered his third top 10 finish of the Tour of Beijing for the BMC Racing Team Sunday with ninth place on the final stage.

'Crazy Finish'

Denis Galimzyanov (Katusha) won the 118-kilometer race that finished with 12 laps of an 8 km circuit around Bird’s Nest Olympic Stadium while Tony Martin (HTC-Highroad) took the overall title by the same margin that he won the Stage 1 time trial. Kristoff was one of six BMC Racing Team riders to make it to the finish of the inaugural edition of the race, joining Chad Beyer, Chris Butler, Amaël Moinard, John Murphy and Danilo Wyss. Moinard was the team's best placed rider overall (42nd, 1:22 behind). Kristoff, competing in his final race of the season, also finished sixth on Stage 4 and fifth on Stage 2. "It was a crazy finish," he said. "Danilo delivered me with one kilometer to go but I got behind some riders that almost crashed, so I lost my speed and momentum. But I was not close for the victory today anyway."
