Tour of Austria, Stage 1: Wyss Seventh

1. July 2012

Danilo Wyss's seventh place finish led the BMC Racing Team Sunday on the opening stage of the Tour of Austria.

Tough Finish Lies Ahead
Wyss said he appeared to be in good position as the race wound its way uphill in the final 500 meters. "But when it turned to the right, I was stuck on the inside while the winner (Alessandro Bazzana of Team Type 1-Sanofi) went on the left side," Wyss said. "But I'm happy with my condition because it wasn't such an easy parcours – five laps with a nice climb. I always felt good on the climb and that's after almost a month without racing." Besides Wyss, BMC Racing Team's Steve Morabito, Ivan Santaromita, Marco Pinotti and Yannick Eijssen all finished in the same time as the winner, with a challenging finish ahead Monday up the Kitzbüheler Horn mountain. BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Michael Sayers said the plan will be to get a rider in the early break if it contains more than eight riders. "Then we'll let our climbers - and we have four or five here – do their best on the climb and hopefully have a good result," Sayers said.
