Tour de Pologne, Stage 2: Santaromita 11th

28. July 2013

BMC Racing Team's Ivan Santaromita fought his way to the top of Passo Pordoi Sunday in 11th place, the second straight day the Tour de Pologne featured a mountain-top finish.

Rest Day On Monday
The Italian road champion said he felt better than he did on Saturday's opening stage when he finished 21st, 67 seconds behind the leading group. "It was a hard finish today, but it was better than yesterday," he said. "I have come here from altitude camp, so the start was a little bit hard for me. But I will keep trying the next few days." Santaromita's effort in the 206.5-kilometer race moved him from 21st to 14th overall, 1:23 behind new race leader Rafal Majka (Team Saxo-Tinkoff). Christophe Riblon (AG2R La Mondiale) soloed to the stage win and is third overall behind Sergio Henao (Sky Procycling). BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Fabio Baldato said the team is still on track for its objectives, which include trying for stage wins. "We don't really have a leader here for the big mountains but Ivan did a good result and it was good to see Dominik Nerz (22nd on the stage) doing well too." The race enjoys a rest day Monday as it transfers to Poland before  resuming with a medium mountain stage of 226 km.
