Tirreno-Adriatico, Stage 3: Rihs's Report Card

11. March 2011

Perugia, Italy

BMC Racing Team Co-Owner Andy Rihs likes what he sees of the BMC Racing Team after three days of hard racing at Tirreno-Adriatico by the likes of former world champions Cadel Evans and Alessandro Ballan, as well as three-time U.S. champion George Hincapie.

Stamp Of Approval

Rihs said riders new to the BMC Racing Team this year – like Manuel Quinziato and Greg Van Avermaet – have melded well with the returnees. "It's a group of fun guys who each know they are preparing for bigger things in the coming months, like the classics and the Grand Tours," Rihs said. Friday's stage ended with a bunch sprint won by Juan José Haedo (Saxo Bank-SunGard) ahead of pink jersey wearer Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Cervélo). "The last climb was attractive, but not decisive," Rihs said, "so the sprinter's teams had their day. This was a tough stage and not one of our guys had any problem following. All of them were perfect."

Paris-Nice, Stage 6: Morabito Withdraws
Aix-en-Provence, France –
The BMC Racing Team will start Saturday's 215-kilometer, penultimate stage of Paris-Nice without Steve Morabito, who withdrew before Friday's 27 km individual time trial. Morabito said he experienced back pain Thursday and did not want to risk further injury. "My back is really hurting and to not start the time trial is really a disappointment," Morabito said. "I liked this year's course and prepared myself very well for Paris-Nice, especially training a lot for the time trial on my BMC Time Machine, But when you have something hurting, you have to take every precaution." Tony Martin (HTC-Highroad) took the overall lead by winning the time trial while Brent Bookwalter's 24th place was best for the BMC Racing Team.
