Tirreno-Adriatico, Stage 3: Out Of Trouble

9. March 2012

Terni, Italy

The BMC Racing Team rode defensively Friday to keep its leaders out of trouble while anticipating the bunch sprint that ended the 178-kilometer race.

'Riding Confidently'

BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Fabio Baldato said a strong tailwind most of the day made it clear the stage would be one for the sprinters. "We decided to be in the front to stay safe and prevent attacks the last 20 or 30 kilometers," Baldato said. "I told George Hincapie to decide when the team should get to the front and protect Cadel Evans and Marco Pinotti. He picked the right moment and it was good to be at the front before some of the dangerous curves. The guys are riding confidently." Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky Procycling) took the stage as Matthew Goss (GreenEDGE Cycling Team) kept the overall lead.
