Increasingly strong winds made for some rough going for the BMC Racing Team as it opened Tirreno-Adriatico with a 17th place finish Wednesday in the team time trial.
Never Found A Rhythm
Starting last of the 22 teams, the BMC Racing Team finished 58 seconds behind GreenEDGE's winning time of 18:41 on the 16.9-kilometer course. Of the last four teams to start, none was closer than 51 seconds from the winning time. BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Fabio Baldato said the wind was primarily a factor. "I was at the start and the conditions changed a lot," Baldato said. "The last four or five kilometers it was particularly bad. Plus, we never found a good rhythm." Matthew Goss (GreenEDGE) will wear the leader's blue jersey for Stage 2.
