Johann Tschopp Third Overall At Paris-Corrèze

2. August 2012

Johann Tschopp of the BMC Racing Team finished third on Thursday's uphill finish at Paris-Corrèze to place third overall in the two-day race.

Attack On The Final Climb
Kenny Elissonde (FDJ-Big Mat) outsprinted Egoitz Garcia (Cofidis Le Crédit en Ligne) to win the 170.2-kilometer stage, while Tschopp edged out Guillaume Bonnafond (Ag2r-La Mondiale) in his own two-up sprint to the line nine seconds later. The result was Tschopp's best of the season and his first podium finish since placing third on Stage 8 of the 2010 Vuelta a España. "I'm very happy with my result," Tschopp said. "I was the first guy to attack on the last climb and it was a really hard climb." On Wednesday's opening stage, Tschopp finished 101st, but in the same time as teammate Adam Blythe – who won the 168.1 km race. Blythe withdrew from Thursday's stage after 35 km, suffering from fatigue.

Pleased With Performance
BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Max Sciandri said he was proud of the team's performance, particularly given his pre-race expectations. "We had a clear mission to get results coming in and we got a stage win and a third place and third on the final podium, so we did what we set out to do here," Sciandri said. "All of the guys worked well together and showed what good teamwork can accomplish." In the overall standings, Garcia took the victory ahead of Bonnafond and Tschopp.
