Giro d'Italia, Stage 4: Evans Sixth

7. May 2013

Cadel Evans of the BMC Racing Team finished sixth Tuesday in a rain-soaked sprint at the Giro d'Italia to move up two places – to 10th – in the overall standings.

'Everything Was Good'
Evans remains 42 seconds behind race leader Luca Paolini (Katusha) as Enrico Battaglin (Bardiani Valvole-CSF Inox) won the sprint at the end of the 246-kilometer race, the second-longest of the three-week race. With help from teammates Steve Morabito, Ivan Santaromita and Danilo Wyss, Evans was well-positioned on the final climb that averaged 5.5 percent. The former world road champion said there were no discernible effects from a crash he was involved in midway through Monday's stage. "Everything was good today and that's a good indicator," he said. "Most importantly, I got through the stage without any trouble or time loss." BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Fabio Baldato looked ahead to Wednesday's stage, which is identical to the one he won as a rider in 2003. "There's a hard climb about 25 km from the finish so it's not going to be easy," he said. "I think about 70 or 80 riders will come to the finish together."
