Giro d'Italia, Stage 11: Uphill Finish

18. May 2011

Castelfidardo, Italy

Mathias Frank garnered the BMC Racing Team's best result (20th place) on Wednesday's 144 kilometer uphill finish at the Giro d'Italia.

Very Hard Day
"I was in good position with 300 meters to go, but we were climbing on a five or six percent grade and in the final uphill meters I lost the wheel in front of me," Frank said. "It was a very crazy stage, with a really fast start and lots of up and down. I felt good in the finale but I could feel the effort that I had done at the beginning." John Gadret (AG2R La Mondiale) took the win while Frank was part of a second group that finished 11 seconds later. Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank-Sungard) kept the overall lead.
