Giro del Trentino, Stage 2: Evans Climbs Into Top 15

17. April 2013

Cadel Evans of the BMC Racing Team climbed his way into the top 15 overall Wednesday at the Giro del Trentino on the first of two mountain-top finishes of the four-day race.

Evans Happy To Be Improving
Evans finished 10th on the stage, 46 seconds behind solo stage winner Kanstansin Siutsou (Sky Procycling). The 2011 Tour de France winner was unable to follow an acceleration by Vincenzo Nibali (Astana Pro Team) in the final three kilometers of the 224.8 km stage. "I know where I am and it looks like things are improving, at least on where I am," Evans said. "I can use that as a measure for the future stages and, of course, going to the Giro. I'm happy to be improving. Things are starting to come together, which is always encouraging." Evans, who was 52nd overall after Tuesday's Stage 2b team time trial, is now 14th, 5:03 behind new race leader Maxime Bouet (AG2R La Mondiale). "I think Cadel can be happy with what we saw today," BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Fabio Baldato said. "I think tomorrow it will be hard for the teams that need to control the race to control it." Swiss national road champion Martin Kohler withdrew from the race suffering from knee pain and Danish national road champion Sebastian Lander did not start the stage due to illness, BMC Racing Team Dr. Giovanni Ruffini said.
