Circuit de la Sarthe: Double-Stage Day

9. April 2014

Steve Cummings finished 13th for the BMC Racing Team in Wednesday's individual time trial that was the second of two stages in one day at Circuit de la Sarthe.

Morning Road Stage:
Ben Hermans, in 22nd place, had the best finish for the BMC Racing Team in the morning's 88-kilometer road stage that was won by Jonas Ahlstrand (Team Giant-Shimano) ahead of Juan Jose Lobato (Movistar Team) and Stage 1 winner Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ.fr), who kept the overall lead heading into the afternoon time trial.

Afternoon Time Trial:
Alex Dowsett (Team Movistar) won the 6.8-km race against the clock, five seconds ahead of Rohan Dennis (Garmin-Sharp) and seven seconds ahead of Dennis's teammate, Ramunas Navardauskas. Cummings was 18 seconds back while teammate Daniel Oss (22nd, at 24 seconds) was also in the top 25.

In The Overall Standings:
Dowsett assumed the overall lead while Cummings moved up to 14th overall, 18 seconds back.

What Sport Director Jackson Stewart Said:
"I think things are going to be decided tomorrow and then confirmed on Saturday. Now that Movistar has the lead, it will be interesting because before that, all the French teams were controlling things. Now I think all those teams will be attacking. Hopefully, we can have some of our guys make the selection and move up."

Looking Ahead:
Thursday's penultimate stage is the second-longest of the four-day race and features two climbs on a circuit finish in Pré-en-Pail.
