BMC Racing Team Signs Sebastian Lander

27. September 2012

The BMC Racing Team has signed reigning Danish national road champion Sebastian Lander, President/General Manager Jim Ochowicz announced Thursday.

Past Junior World Track Champion
Ochowicz said though Lander is only 21, he has already demonstrated his potential. "We are pleased to have Sebastian joining our team," Ochowicz said. "He is an extremely talented young rider with many skills and he will be a great asset to the BMC Racing Team in the coming years." Lander took up competitive cycling in 2004 and has raced for continental teams since 2010. As a member of the Danish Glud & Marstrand-LRØ squad this year, he has won more than half a dozen races, including a stage of Coupe des nations Ville Saguenay (Under 23) and the overall classification of the Post Cup. A junior world champion in the points race on the track in 2009, Lander was eighth in the Under 23 world championship road race in 2010.

Versatile Rider
BMC Racing Team Directeur Sportif John Lelangue said Lander's versatility is impressive. "He's a good finisher and a puncheur, but also good in selective races like Liège-Bastogne-Liège Under 23 (a race in which he finished third in 2010)," Lelangue said. "We're not going to ask him to immediately make results. He'll be there to learn from our world champion and a past Tour de France winner and from our big classic guys. Those guys are there to make results and if they do, he'll learn from them." Lander said he is excited by the prospect of joining a team filled with so many talented and veteran riders. "I want to keep improving, get stronger and hope I am the best teammate possible," he said. "I'll also be looking for some small successes myself, so if I can try to be there in some of the finishes, it could be very great."
