BMC Racing Team Finishes All Nine Riders At Vuelta

9. September 2012

The nine BMC Racing Team riders who crossed the finish line of the Vuelta a España Sunday in Madrid included Philippe Gilbert, winner of Stages 9 and 19, Stage 13 winner Steve Cummings and first-time grand tour finisher Yannick Eijssen.

Lodewyck 15th On Final Stage
BMC Racing Team Directeur Sportif John Lelangue said it was satisfying to see the team win three stages and finish all nine riders, including second-year professional Eijssen. "This was a big step in his young career," Lelangue said. "During the three weeks, he was improving every day. It was a learning process for a young riders, getting bottles and retrieving feeds, fighting and recovering. I think it was a nice experience for him. I wanted him to make this experience in his second year as a pro than in Utah and Colorado, which were maybe races that suited him better." Klaas Lodewyck (15th) was the BMC Racing Team's best finisher on the final stage as John Degenkolb (Argos-Shimano) earned his fifth stage win. Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank) won the race overall for the second time, adding to his 2008 title.
