Vuelta a España, Stage 1: Eighth In The Team Time Trial

24. agosto 2013

The BMC Racing Team finished eighth in the team time trial that opened the Vuelta a España Saturday night.

'A Good Start'
On board BMC timemachine TM01s, the BMC Racing Team clocked the fourth-fastest time at the 9.2-kilometer intermediate check on the way to finishing 36 seconds off the winning mark. Astana Pro Team won the 27.4-kilometer race against the clock by 10 seconds ahead of RadioShack Leopard. Omega Pharma-Quick Step was third, 16 seconds behind. Reigning Italian time trial champion Marco Pinotti, who led the BMC Racing Team across the line, called it a good performance to open the three-week race. "Personally, I am happy with how I went and how the team worked together," he said. "We arrived with five riders and we took the the best out of every rider. The technique was good." Assistant Director Yvon Ledanois said the team worked hard to prepare for the 68th edition of the race, which began on a barge and traveled through the locality of Vilanova de Arousa. "I think it's a good result," he said. "We had no problems and Philippe (Gilbert)  was very strong, as well as Marco, Ivan (Santaromita) and Yannick (Eijssen). On a big day, this is a good start."
