Tour of Oman, Stage 1: Wyss In The Break

Wadi Al Hoqay, Oman

Danilo Wyss of the BMC Racing Team figured in the breakaway of the day on the opening stage of Tour of Oman Tuesday.

Dangerous Crosswinds

The riders spent the day along the seafront in the wind throughout the 159-kilometer stage, and BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Michael Sayers was satisfied that none was involved in a crash. "There were many crosswinds, Taylor (Phinney) and Alessandro (Ballan) were caught just behind a crash with 25 km to go but were OK," Sayers said. Wyss was part of a four-man group that was away for 150 km. Sayers said there was no chance for the breakaway to succeed to the finish because many sprinter's teams were chasing hard behind. "Team Sky rode ahead of the pack, with Garmin-Barracuda and then we had pressure from Lotto-Belisol and from GreenEdge," Sayers said. Wyss earned some points of bonus in the opening stage eventually won by Andre Greipel (Lotto-Belisol). "It was good for Danilo to be in the break today and the main thing is that everyone stayed safe. Tomorrow will be quite hard. The finish will be difficult."
