Tour of Austria, Stage 7: Quinziato Third

12. luglio 2014

BMC Racing Team's Manuel Quinziato rode to a third-place finish Saturday at the Tour of Austria to register his best result in an individual time trial since 2008.

'My Shape Is Good'
On board his BMC timemachine TM01, Quniziato was 18 seconds off Belgian time trial champion Kristof Vandelwalle's winning time of 27:50 on the 24.1-kilometer course. The Trek Factory Racing Team rider was 15 seconds faster than his teammate, Jesse Sergent, who was runner-up. "This was a good sign that my shape is good in my first race after the Giro d'Italia," Quinziato said. "It leaves me confident for my next race, the Eneco Tour, where there is another time trial. So I am happy."

Season-Best Result
Not since finishing runner-up at the Chrono des Nations in France in October of 2008 had Quinziato scored such a good result in a time trial. It was also his best finish of the season and came on a flat, non-technical course, which does not exactly suit his strengths, he said. "I am not really a time trial specialist," Quinziato said. "I prefer to have some corners to break up the rhythm and have some recovery. So I thought it was good that I could perform on this kind of parcours."

Cummings Withdraws
With one day of the race to go, British national road champion Peter Kennaugh (Team Sky) leads the race overall by 63 seconds ahead of Javier Moreno (Movistar Team). Brent Bookwalter is the BMC Racing Team's best-placed rider in 18th. BMC Racing Team Sport Director Jackson Stewart said Sunday's final stage, which finishes with 10 laps of a circuit, should be one for the team's sprinters, Sebastian Lander and Rick Zabel. "Those two held a little bit back today so they will be ready for tomorrow," Stewart said. Steve Cummings did not start the time trial after complaining of stomach problems, Stewart said.
