15. giugno 2010

Lac-Etchemin, Quebec, Canada

Norwegian sprinter Alexander Kristoff of the BMC Racing Team is out of the Tour de Beauce following a crash Tuesday on a gravel section during the opening stage.

Beyer, Butler In Front Group

Kristoff, a third-place finisher at the recent TD Bank International Championships, was one of 10 riders who crashed on the downhill section of crushed rock. Five of them did not finish. "He's got a lot of cuts but fortunately no broken bones," BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Michael Sayers said. "It was a pretty bad crash. He looked quite horrible at first." BMC Racing Team's Chad Beyer (30th) and Chris Butler (36) were in a group of 38 that finished eight seconds behind solo winner Rafael Serrano Fernandez (Heraklio-Murcia).

Underwent CAT Scan
BMC Racing Team Doctor Scott Major was on the scene of Kristoff's crash within seconds. He said despite some deep lacerations to his forehead and cuts to both arms, both legs and his knees, Kristoff is otherwise OK. "He never lost consciousness and we had a CAT scan done," Major said. "The bottom line is he'll be OK. There's nothing that's going to sideline him for any length of time."
