On one of the more difficult climbing days at this year's Giro d'Italia, Johann Tschopp finished 19th for the BMC Racing Team to continue his climb up the overall standings.

Kohler Withdraws

José Rujano (Androni Giocattoli-CIPI) won the stage ahead of Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank-Sungard), who keep the overall lead. Tschopp finished 19th on the stage and is 20th overall, 7:34 behind. "I'm very satisfied to have stayed with the second group," Tschopp said. BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Fabio Baldato said: "He had good legs and rode a good tempo today. He's been fighting the whole race and I think tomorrow he'll have another good day." Martin Kohler (stomach flu) became the third BMC Racing Team rider to withdraw from the three-week race.
