Giro d'Italia, 12th stage: Sunshine after the rain

20. maggio 2010

Porto Recanati, Italy

Following yesterday's cold and rain, cyclists racing the 12th stage of the 2010 Giro d'Italia were treated to a full day of sunshine along the 206-km route from Città Sant'Angelo to Porto Recanati.

Evans in the first chasing pack

"We really deserved some good weather. Everyone was happy about it. It was still a tough day but much easier compared to yesterday. The sun was shining on the coast," said Swiss cyclist Michael Schär from the BMC Racing Team. Filippo Pozzato (Katjusha) delivered the first victory for the Italian hosts by breaking away from the pack to win the sprint. World champion Cadel Evans was the first to finish from the BMC Racing Team, crossing the line in 29th place with the first chasing pack, ten seconds behind the leader.
