BMC Racing Team's Morabito Second At Tour of Austria

8. luglio 2012

Steve Morabito of the BMC Racing Team finished second overall Sunday at the Tour of Austria, while teammate Danilo Wyss was sixth on the final stage for his third top 10 placing at the race.

Morabito 'A Great Leader'

Jakob Fuglsang (RadioShack-Nissan) won the race with a 1:24 margin over Morabito. Daniele Colli (Team Type 1-Sanofi) won the final stage that finished in the streets of Vienna. BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Michael Sayers said the squad did the best it could despite starting with only seven riders. Marco Pinotti won the Stage 7 time trial, Morabito was runner-up on Stage 2 and Wyss finished seventh, sixth and sixth on Stages 1, 3 and 8. "Steve demonstrated he's a great leader and, like Greg Van Avermaet did here last year, I think the second half of the year is going to be great for Steve," Sayers said.

Teamwork Helped

Morabito said the result – his best at a stage race since being runner-up at the Jayco Herald Sun Tour in 2007 – made up for some of the disappointment he felt for not being at the Tour de France. "I'm really happy with this race and my level of racing," he said. "I was there in the climbs, I was there in the time trial and I was there today so I was really happy with the team and the work they did. It was a week-long effort to get the podium. Though it was a disappointment to not be part of the Tour de France team, it was a chance to do my own race. That's the positive side. I got a good feeling during the week and hope I can do it again."
