Chad Beyer earned the BMC Racing Team its first classification jersey of the season Sunday when he captured the PMU best sprinter category at the Tour de Romandie.

A Team Effort

Beyer first donned the green jersey after being part of a long breakaway on Stage 1. The American padded his lead by infiltrating another breakaway on Stage 2. "I wasn't planning on coming here and winning a leader's jersey," Beyer said. "I'm always optimistic and when I get an opportunity, I go for it. I had a lot of fun out there." Beyer thanked his teammates – particularly Simon Zahner – for helping on the final two mountainous stages, which were run in cool, rainy conditions. "Without Simon, I don't think I would have made it," he said. BMC Racing Team Assistant Director René Savary said the second-year professional took a big step forward in defending the jersey all the way to the end of the six-day, 651-kilometer race. "It taught Chad how to fight for something and how much power – physically and physiologically – that it takes to defend," Savary said.

Moos Honored
Before the stage, BMC Racing Team's Alex Moos was recognized for his participation in what is expected to be his final Tour de Romandie, a race he first competed in back in 1997. Sunday's stage started and finished in Sion, Switzerland, just a few kilometers from where Moos lives in Miége, and the town of his birthplace, Sierre.
