Moritz Milatz defends overall lead in BMC Racing Cup in Solothurn

11. May 2014

Solothurn, Switzerland - BMC Racing-Cup

The BMC-Racing Cup in Solothurn did not quite turn out as the BMC athletes had expected. Lukas Flueckiger was best team athlete in third place. Moritz Milatz succeeded in defending his overall lead.

"It's possible to win or lose the race in Solothurn during the first five minutes. We lost it today," said Lukas Flückiger. He was the fastest BMC athlete, grinding this teeth as he crossed the finish line in third position. He had actually hoped to win the race. "But things turned against us today. When the later race winner Nino Schurter rode away, after his team mate Florian Vogel had opened up a gap we had to do all the chasing," said Flueckiger. "Moritz Milatz, Martin Fanger, and Ralph Naef sacrificed themselves for the benefit of the team."

Fourth placed Julien Absalon explained that he had not yet recovered from the long journey home around half the globe after his victory at the World Cup in Cairns, Australia. The preparation for the race in Solothurn had been difficult for him, he said. "Of course, it's unfortunate to lose the race in this manner, despite our numerical superiority. But Nino was very strong indeed," said the World Cup leader ungrudgingly.

On the other hand Moritz Milatz reached his defined goal and defended his overall lead in the BMC Racing Cup although he was not absolutely fit after an infection. All six BMC athletes classified in the top ten.
