Tour of Utah, Stage 4: Beyer Finishes Fifth

13. August 2011

Salt Lake City, Utah

Chad Beyer rode to a season-best fifth place for the BMC Racing Team and Jeff Louder held onto his lead in the Best Utah Rider competition Saturday at the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah.

Beyer In The Breakaway

Beyer was part of a 24-man breakaway that escaped early on in the 11-lap, 129-kilometer circuit race through the streets of Salt Lake City and survived to the finish. Janier Acevedo (Gobernacion de Antioguia-Indeportes Antiquia) soloed to a five-second win while Beyer was edged out for fourth at the line by Francisco Mancebo (RealCyclist.com) six seconds later. "I played it conservatively and was attentive the last couple laps to any moves," Beyer said. "I had good legs right at the end and had I played it a bit smarter, I might have been second. But no one was catching Acevedo." George Hincapie is the BMC Racing Team's best-placed rider (16th, 3:17 behind) and Louder is 22nd, 3:54 back of race leader Levi Leipheimer (Team Radioshack). Sunday's final stage features a mountain-top finish at Snowbird Resort.
