Tour of Austria, Stage 7: Phinney Fourth

9. July 2011

Podersdorft, Austria

Taylor Phinney's fourth place in the individual time trial Saturday brought to six the number of top 10 placings the BMC Racing Team has registered at this year's Tour of Austria.

Santambrogio Now Sixth

Phinney, the reigning Under 23 world time trial champion and former U.S. national time trial champion, was 46 seconds slower than stage winner (and former world time trial champion) Bert Grabsch of HTC-Highroad. Phinney said he wasn't sure what to expect when he got on his BMC timemachine TM01 for the 30.1-kilometer test. "I'm still working on my time trial skills, especially at the end of a stage race," Phinney said. "But I ended up feeling good. I feel like I left everything out there and felt better than I expected." BMC Racing Team's Mauro Santambrogio slipped from second to sixth overall on a flat, wind-swept course that favored power riders. Fredrik Kessiakoff (Astana) kept the overall lead while BMC Racing Team's Greg Van Avermaet still leading the points classification with only Sunday's final 122 km stage to go.
