Tour de Romandie, Stage 4: Kohler Still In Green

3. May 2014

BMC Racing Team's Martin Kohler held onto the green, PMU sprint classification leader's jersey Saturday at the Tour de Romandie as three riders from an original breakaway of five survived to the finish to spoil the bunch sprint.

The Course:
Spanning 173.1 kilometers, the penultimate stage included five laps of a 29 km finishing circuit around Fribourg.

A Crash:
With the peloton in full flight to close the gap to the three leaders, a crash with less than eight kilometers to go took down BMC Racing Team's Danilo Wyss and several others. Wyss was not seriously hurt and finished the stage.

The Podium:
Michael Albasini (ORICA-GreenEDGE) out-sprinted Thomas Voeckler (Team Europcar) and Jan Bakelants (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) to win his third stage in five days. The peloton arrived nine seconds later as Silvan Dillier, in 11th, was the BMC Racing Team's best finisher.

In The Overall Standings:
Simon Spilak (Katusha Team) kept the overall lead, one second ahead of Chris Froome (Team Sky) and 1:02 in front of world road champion Rui Costa (Lampre-Merida) heading into Sunday's 18.5-km individual time trial.

The Green Jersey:
Kohler saw his margin in the sprints classification narrowed to two points as Alexis Vuillermoz (AG2R La Mondiale) picked up seven points by being part of the breakaway. The past Swiss national road and time trial champion only has to finish the final stage to wrap up the classification.
