Tour de France, Stage 13: Ballan On The Offensive

17. July 2010

Revel, France

BMC Racing Team's Alessandro Ballan initiated what proved to be Saturday's race-winning move at the Tour de France. But the former world champion couldn't match the pace of stage winner Alexandre Vinokourov (Astana).

Had Good Legs
Ballan attacked on the Côte de Saint-Ferréol, a climb in the last 10 kilometers of the 196 km race. But after being first to the top, Ballan was passed by Vinokourov, who soloed for the win. "I had good legs and wanted to try something," Ballan said. "Maybe it was a little too early. I just missed being able to get on Vinokourov's wheel."

Ready For Pyrenees
The upcoming four days in the Pyrenees are sure to be hard, BMC Racing Team world champion Cadel Evans said. "Tomorrow is going to be a bit better indication and give us a good indication for the rest of the Tour," Evans said. "It's a lot of work for your body to recover from a broken bone. I hope to improve every day." Evans said he'd like to either move into the top 10 "and or" go for a stage win.
