Ster ZLM Toer, Prologue: Good Start For Ballan

12. June 2013

BMC Racing Team's Yannick Eijssen finished 38 seconds off the winning time in Wednesday's prologue of the Ster ZLM Toer prologue, while Alessandro Ballan was one second slower than his teammate in his first time trial of the season.

'Ballan Looked Pretty Good'
In rainy conditions, Robert Wagner (Blanco Pro Cycling) took the win by two seconds ahead of his own teammate, Lars Boom, on the 8.0-kilometer course. Ballan said he took a cautious approach in the slick conditions on his BMC timemachine TM01. "I didn't take risks in the corners," he said. "I had good sensations and my goal is to finish the race. We'll see how it goes day-by-day." BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Max Sciandri said the former world road champion, who missed nearly six months of the season after a serious crash during training in December, is progressing well in his return. "Ballan looked pretty good," he said. "It was nice to see him back racing. He actually did a decent ride. I'm happy." Thursday's 175.7-km race is on a looping course that starts and finishes in Breda, The Netherlands.
