Giro d'Italia, Stage 17: No Easy Day

26. May 2010

Pejo Terme, Italy

Danilo Wyss represented the BMC Racing Team in a 19-man breakaway Wednesday at the Giro d'Italia while teammate Cadel Evans finished in a reduced peloton on a day when the top of the overall standings remained unchanged.

Wyss In The Break Again

The group with Wyss made its escape with 120 kilometers left in the 173 km race. The Swiss was also part of a breakaway on Stage 13 when he finished 12th. This time, the break splintered late as Damien Monier (Cofidis) soloed for the win and Wyss placed 16th. Evans said it was not an easy day. "It was pretty fast at the start and headwind all the way as well, which certainly made getting in the breakaway difficult for those who wanted to get in it," he said. "I certainly wasn't feeling comfortable in there (at the end). I don't know how the others were feeling. (Michele) Scarponi made an acceleration, but with my position on GC in the last few hundred meters, it's not going to make much of a difference."
