Critérium du Dauphiné, Stage 3: Evans Into Second

8. June 2011

Grenoble, France

Cadel Evans of the BMC Racing Team moved into second place overall at the Critérium du Dauphiné Wednesday on the strength of his sixth place finish in the individual time trial.

Good Tour Reconnaissance
On the same 42.5-kilometer course that will be used for the final time trial of the Tour de France, Evans conceded 1:20 to stage winner Tony Martin (HTC-Highroad) and 1:09 to Bradley Wiggins (Sky Pro Cycling), who assumed the race lead. Evans trails Wiggins by 1:11 in the overall standings. BMC Racing Team Directeur Sportif John Lelangue said he was pleased with Evans's performance on a technical course that was made more difficult by some wet descents. "When you look at all the stage race contenders, Wiggins is making a really good time, but the other ones are behind. So that's a good sign," Lelangue said. "Surely the three last stages, which are tough mountain finishes, will be intense."
