Greg Van Avermaet finished in the lead group Saturday after spending much of the stage in a breakaway at the Vuelta a España, placing 22nd in the bunch sprint won by Daniele Bennati (Leopard Trek).
'Really Good Race' For Van Avermaet
Van Avermaet was part of an early 27-man breakaway that was caught at the base of the last four categorized climbs about 50 kilometers from the finish of the 185 km race. "Greg did a really good race today," BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Rik Verbrugghe said. "Two kilometers from the finish, everything was coming back together again and he was alone so he had to do everything himself. But he did the best he could do." The three-week race finishes Sunday in Madrid.
