Training Camp Diary: Moving Day

23. januari 2010

Santa Rosa

Halfway into its two-week training camp, the BMC Racing Team heads south in search of different terrain, a change of scenery and better weather.

The dreary blanket of rain and cold lifted from the Northern California area early Friday afternoon to give the team’s 18 riders a taste of some well-deserved sunshine in the second half of a five-hour training ride. It marked only the second time in six days that the squad didn’t spend its entire ride pedaling in the rain.

Heading South
Saturday, the BMC Racing Team ventures south from the Santa Rosa area to San Francisco for a reconnaissance ride of one stage of the Amgen Tour of California. It will be an opportunity to review some of the challenges the team will face when America’s most prestigious stage race is run in May. The ride from the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge to Santa Cruz is expected to take five hours.

A New Phase
Following a transfer to Monterey, California, Sunday and Monday’s training rides will mark a transition to Southern California, where the weather has not been much better the past week. By Monday night, the BMC Racing Team will be the Los Angeles area, where it will remain through to the end of the week. In addition to more training on some of the same roads the Tour of California will travel, time will be spent taking team photos and video and meeting with sponsors and the media.
